“My Philanthropic Gesture Not politically motivated, Peoples Welfare Is My Priority” – OWOLANWI
The Osogbo Local Government Secretary, Hon. Owolanwi Taofeek Temitope spoke extensively in an interview with the OSUN REPORTERS Crew led by Ajelogbon De-Moin and Jamiu Babatunde on his recent projects embarked upon within his immediate constituency.
So far so good, as the local government secretary, I thank God almighty and the parliamentarians including the Chairman for their cooperation so far.
On some projects embarked upon in my immediate constituency, I have started this before I assumed office as the secretary. The first project was the construction of the bridge in ward-14 that link Fiwasaye, Tanisi and Gbonmi, the second one is that of Gaa-Fulani Ayegun, while provision of portable water and renovation of water pipe supplying Oke-Bale. Provision of UTME forms for students, giving schorlaship to some students among the party members. I must give back to people as their representative.
The recent laudable programme organized by my office as the Osogbo Local Government Secretary was as a result of the need to join Governor Oyetola in improving the health sector in Osun. We have six primary health center within this area, namely; Ayegun health center, Iludun health center, Oke-Abesu health center, Olugunna health center, Mubaraka health center and Oke Baale maternity health centers. Two months ago, I visited those health centers to know where I can contribute in my own little way. So, I donated the needed number of drugs, hand gloves, books, bowls and some other necessary materials free of charge as the closest representative to the people at the grassroot.
You asked if there is any expected political gain attached to all this; It is the glory of God that brought me to where I am today, I do not have any political ambition as we speak. I contested for councillorship during the last election but unexpectedly, I’m here today as the secretary of this local government. So, I can not categorically tell you for now whether I will contest or not as everything is in the hand of God. Though, it is not until you are in public office before you give back to the people, that is why the people’s welfare is my priority.
Let me add this, it has been long that this local government have been receiving small amount of allocation but we have been able to utilize the little we have. We only generate income from the Local Government Identification and markets. Now that President Muhammad Buhari has commenced the autonomy process for the local governments which I’m 100% in support because when there is full flow, we will be able to give back to people as expected.
I am using this opportunity to advice the people in power to put the interest the people at heart. We should remember that power is transient, Aregbesola spent eight years as governor and he left. It is Oyetola’s turn, I pray he spends eight years as well but he is going to leave, the interest of our people should be paramount to us.
Our people should continue to support our government and our party, they should give room for peace in Osogbo and Osun at large.
Hnmmm!! You want to know the meaning of my name? Owolanwi is not a nickname but our family name. I am from Alare’s Compound while my mother’s side is Oloyin’s Compound, both in Osogbo. Thank you.
