KANO EMIRATES: Resign Now, Groups Tell Newly Appointed Emirs

No fewer than 22 Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and 70 prominent indigenes of Kano State have charged all newly appointed emirs to immediately resign their appointments in the interest of peace.

The concerned individuals and groups have sought urgent intervention of the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Mohammad Sa’ad Abubakar and denounce the creation of additional emirates within the Kano empire.

Recently, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje had signed the Appointment and Deposition Act. 2019, which paved ways for balkanisation of the Kano Emirate council into four while four new emirs were appointed with first class status for Bichi, Karaye, Rano and Gaya.

The Renaissance Coalition in collaboration with the CSOs and other stakeholders, speaking yesterday at a media briefing, Comrade Abdulrahman Baffa Yola, asked Governor Ganduje to rather dissipate his energy towards tackling the socio-economic and development challenges in the State.

The group faulted the hasty passage of the Appointment and Deposition Act, 2019, which lasted only 48 hours and without due legislative process.

Sources gathered that Barrister Saida Sa’ad, who is another member of the coalition, accused the State House of Assembly of violating legislative process and giving undue attention to unpopular bill as described by her.
