Osun wins 14 medals, as Muminat Oyediran emerges third at UBEC 2024 games

Osun State has won fourteen medals at the just concluded 2024 Basic Education School Sports Competition (BESS Games), organized by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) in collaboration with the State Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEBs) and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Education Board.

The competition which was the madden edition, hosted 25 states where Osun achieved remarkable success, winning a total of 14 medals with three golds, silvers and bronze.

One of the participants from Osun State, Oyediran Muminat, a talented student from Anwar-ul Islam Grammar School in Moro Area, Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State, made her school, Osun and the entire Southwest region proud by clinching third place at the UBEC 2024 Table Tennis competition in Abuja among others.

OsunReporters News gathered that, Muminat had earlier this year won a gold medal for the state at the Southwest Table Tennis Competition which qualifies her for the national competition in Abuja.

Osun state participated in the first-ever national primary and secondary school games took place in the nation’s capital for 10 days of competitive events in various categories between 6th and 15th of November, 2024.

While speaking with OsunReporters News Correspondent via telephone, Muminat thanked her parents, siblings and teachers who encourage her in the journey of table tennis game. She pleaded for the state government intervention for the smooth running of her education and sport career.

“I’m very happy and thank God for the success recorded so far. I thank My brother who taught me how to play table tennis. I also thank my parent and my teachers for their support.

“I want to do more, i wish to break many records in the subsequent competitions but the state government need to encourage and support my career to do more,” Muminat Oyediran said.

The Sports Officer of the State Universal Basic Education (SUBE), Mrs. Adepoju, who coordinated Osun State team at the competition, described the tournament as an exciting event where new talents were discovered.

She urged stakeholders and the government to support and encourage the participants, stressing that sports are a veritable tool to bring children into the school system and to engage them positively.

In their separate comments, Anwar-ul-Islam Grammar School Principal, Mrs Adeyemo Bolaji; the Vice Principal, Mrs Olagunju R.O and representative of the school Old Students Association, Mr Jimoh Monsuru congratuted Muminat for making the state, school and Ikire proud.


However, the school Principal pledged to pay Muminat’s Second-Term school fee to encourage her.
