One killed as gunmen attack lawmaker’ convoy

It was a traguc scene when some unknown gunmen on Sunday night reportedly attacked the convoy of Ginger Obinna Onwusibe, lawmaker representing Isiala Ngwa North and South Federal Constituency.

Reports revealed that the incident happened in the Ubakala area of Umuahia South, Abia State about 9:00PM, leaving one police officer dead and another injured.

Reports further revealed that the assailants, disguised in black outfits and police-style armour, intercepted the convoy with a Toyota Corolla.

At the time, the Labour Party lawmaker was not in the vehicle; only two police escorts and a driver were present.

Onwusibe, is the chairman House Committee on Financial Crimes.

The attackers fired at the vehicle, killing one officer on the spot before fleeing the scene.

______Security personnel from the Ubakala police station responded with gunfire, and investigations are underway.


_______Authorities suspect the gunmen may be linked to kidnapping activities, though further details are pending.
