Osun AMMBAN Drags Suspected Fraudsters to Court
Members of the Association of Mobile Money and Bank Agents in Nigeria (AMMBAN), Osun State Chapter, the umbrella body for POS Operators, have dragged two alleged fraudsters before an Osogbo Magistrate Court for attempting to defraud multiple POS Operators in Osogbo, Osun State.
The suspects, David Timothy and Amata Williams, were arraigned on three count charges bordering on attempted fraud, felony and conspiracy which are culpable under sections 419 and 516 of criminal code cap 24 laws of Osun State of Nigeria.
Magistrate M.A.Olatunji in her ruling granted bail to the accused in the sum of N200,000 each and other attached conditions which must be fulfilled by their sureties.
The accused were to be remanded till their bail conditions are met while the next adjourned date is October 3rd, 2024.
In his reaction to the arraignment, AMMBAN Osun State Chairman, Mr Badru Asimiyu Olawale, warned all fraudsters to stay away from attempting to defraud POS Operators in Osun State or have themselves to blame, maintaining that Osun State is not a place for criminals.
He commended the Cybercrime Unit of Osun State Police Command under CP Muhammad Abba Umar for quick investigation and prosecution of the accused.
He also charged POS Operators to always be at alert and wary of fraudulent and suspicious transactions to forestall losing hard-earned money to fraudsters who refused to work but want to live large by indulging in cybercrime and other financial improprieties.
Asimiyu furher alerted that POS Operators must comport themselves in line with CBN regulations on Agency Banking as the security Joint Task Force (JTF) has concluded arrangements to enforce the regulation with regards to Know Your Customer (KYC) documentation, having physical agent location and compliance with the set Standard as POS Hawkers and Operating under Umbrella would no longer be tolerated across the country.
