Nigerian Bank’s Website Hacked, As Customers Records Tampered
Information reaching the OsunReporters News has it that there are concerns that the domain of GTBank, one of Nigeria’s major financial institutions, may have been compromised by suspected cybercriminals.
According to reports, on Wednesday night, Peoples Gazette reported that the bank’s website, gtbank.com, was inaccessible.
,,,,This incident comes shortly after the bank renewed its domain name for five years, covering the period from August 13, 2024, to March 21, 2029, according to domain information from various online sources.
,,,,,,,While no group has taken responsibility for the attack, which seems to have started on August 14, GTBank has not yet issued an official statement regarding the situation.
,,,,,,,It appears that the attackers have set up a fake layer of the website, possibly intending to harvest customers’ data through phishing tactics.
A cybersecurity professional with knowledge of…..the Nigerian banking sector suggested that the issue might stem from compromised login credentials rather than the domain being stolen for resale.
However, many GTBank customers have expressed frustration on the social media platform X, reporting their inability to access the website for transactions.
……Bank representatives on the platform have advised customers to be patient and direct…..their concerns to a specific support channel.
At the time of filing this report, a quick check by our correspondent also confirmed that the site was still unavailable.
