“Invest In The Digitalisation Of Law Libraries” – AAUA Lecturer Charges FG, State Govt

A Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko & Visiting Senior Academic, Elizade University, Ondo State, Dr Akin Olawale Oluwadayisi has charged the Federal and State Government to invest heavily in the digitalization of Law Libraries in Nigeria.

He stated this while facilitating at the All Law Librarian Conference/Workshop held between 3rd-5th July 2024 at Nigerian Law School, Headquarters, Bwari-Abuja.

Olawale stated further in his paper titled: ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND THE FUTURE OF LEGAL RESEARCH AND SCHOLARSHIP IN A DIGITAL ENVIRONMENT that responsible development and deployment of Artificial Intelligence is required in the digital age but to realize this, the Federal and State Government must invest to digitalise the current physical and traditional libraries that exist in our Universities.

The Don identified the role of Artificial Intelligence in conducting legal research by Law Lecturers, Law Librarians and law students alike. In his presentation, he identified the various Artificial Intelligence that are now deployed for use globally as well as few being utilized in the NIgeria legal space.

He, however caution that AI has its challenges and limitations which requires human inputs for maximum use. The decried the fact that many libraries in Nigeria, both private and public, are yet to be digitalized, emphasizing that no effective AI can be achieved where there is no digitalisation of the resources.
