One Dead In Lagos Yoruba, Hausa Traders Clash
A clash between Yoruba youths and Hausa traders at Oluwole Market, Ogba Area of Lagos has resulted loss of life
According to reports, the incident, which unfolded on the night of February 22, 2024, and persisted into the following day, saw a young man named Abbey losing his life after attempting to mediate a dispute between two Hausa me.
Sources revealed that one Abbey was allegedly stabbed by an unidentified person during his intervention, leading to fatal injuries. The ensuing tension triggered a retaliatory clash between the Yoruba and Hausa communities in the vicinity.
However, this retaliatory violence resulted in the destruction of food items, particularly peppers and onions, which were being sold by the Hausa traders in the market. Commercial activities in the area were severely disrupted.
____While narrating the incident, residents, including one identified as Christopher, said that initial warnings to stay away from the Oluwole Market area were disregarded, assuming the situation had been resolved.
…..However, the conflict resumed, with individuals hurling dangerous objects at each other. Many shop owners had to hastily close their establishments to ensure their safety. The intervention of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the police became necessary to quell the escalating tension in the area.
