Re: How Kwara Polytechnic Rector made false claims about institution’s financial status, commissioned shoddy, uncompleted projects
The attention of the Kwara State Polytechnic Management has been drawn to a story tagged “Re: How Kwara Polytechnic Rector made false claims about institution’s financial status, commissioned shoddy, uncompleted projects” by an on-line media platform-Informant247.
The Polytechnic Authority wishes to put it on record that the story was misleading.
It is pertinent to state that the Old library renovation work allegedly projected by the online media outfit was not commissioned, even though it was earlier slated for commissioning during the 29th Convocation ceremony that took place in November, 2023. This was because the Management was not satisfied with the level of work done as at the time of commissioning, hence, the reason it was not commissioned by the Chief of Staff to His Excellency, Alhaji Abdulkadir Aliyu Mahe who represented the Executive Governor of the State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq at the event. While there are pictures showing where the Chief of Staff commissioned different projects, there is no picture to show that he commissioned the particular project, except if the online platform can provide one.
Above are the true picture of the renovated toilets, as against what the reporter used in the story.
For more clarification and emphasis, the projects commissioned during the 29th Convocation ceremony were:
1) The Zango-Poly Power Project (i.e 33kv harmony feeder injection sub-station)
This project was undertaken by the Management following the approval granted by the Governor to guarantee improved power supply to the Polytechnic, Apata-Yakuba, Oyun, Oke-Oyi and Oke-Ose Communities in Moro and Ilorin East Local Government Areas.
Other State and Federal Government Agencies that are also benefitting from the Institution’s largesse are the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Kwara State Television Authority, Radio Kwara, Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) and Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) amongst others.
Management had embarked on the construction of drainages and de-silting of the existing ones to ensure that water is channeled properly during rainy season.
This has assisted graciously in proffering solution to the challenge of erosion, which has ravaged the Polytechnic. The project also ensured the safety of all road users within the institution. The total length of completed drainages constructed within the campus is equivalent to 2.533km, as against the reporter’s claim that it was from the roundabout to the front of administration block.
3) The retrofitted Old and abandoned Institute of Technology Building.
The renovated Institute of Technology Complex (IOT), which has been in existence since 1990, was also commissioned. It is important to state here that the building had earlier been abandoned by past administrations in the institution due to vibration and fear of collapse. This was renovated after proffering a solution of “retrofitting” as suggested by structural engineers who looked deep into the cause of the vibration. With this solution, the institution now has additional eight big lecture halls, eight laboratories and forty-seven staff offices.
False claims about the financial status of the Polytechnic
From the facts and figures at our disposal, it is completely incorrect that the Polytechnic had excess of billions of naira, as alleged by the medium, except if Informant247 can provide the proof.
Members of the public are hereby advised to embrace the true position as stated above and are also free to visit the appropriate office in the Polytechnic for more information at any time.
The online platform is hereby advised to desist from dragging the name of the institution into the mud, if not, the institution will not hesitate to take action against the medium.
