4 Nigerian Health Workers In UK Sent To Jail For Abusing Patient
Four healthcare professionals who are reportedly Nigerians were sentenced to prison in Wolverhampton, United Kingdom after they were seen on camera physically and psychologically abusing an elderly patient.
..,,,According to Sahara reporters, the 89-year-old woman was at a care facility in Wolverhampton, according to the police.
She is nonverbal due to vascular dementia. Police also revealed that her relatives had covertly hidden a camera and recorded the abuse, according to a Thursday BBC story. According to the BBC News article, Ame Tunkara, Morounranti Adefila, Danny Ohen, and Bridget Aideyan were all convicted guilty and given sentences at Wolverhampton Crown Court. After a year at her current residence, the woman’s family discovered bruises on her arm, and police noted that she had also grown apprehensive and afraid of being touched. The family put up the camera in February 2020 and spent four days filming.
…..According to West Midlands Police, it shows the woman being treated disrespectfully, slapped with a pillow, and handled roughly. Three employees were fired right away and three other agency employees were suspended when the abuse was reported to the house. Police added that after watching the video, two more suspects were found.
….Following a trial, four of the eight care aides who had been charged were found not guilty. On December 8, Tunkara, 33, from Walsall, and Adefila, 43, from Wolverhampton, were convicted guilty of mistreatment and willful negligence and given a four-month prison sentence.
…..On November 14, Ohen, 39, and Aideyan, 49, both from Wolverhampton, were both found guilty of the same offenses and given sentences of six months and four months, respectively.
