Rejection, controversy force APC to postpone committee inauguration

,,,,,The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the postponement of its proposed inauguration of various committees due to the withdrawal of certain persons from the committee.

The ruling party, last week, appointed standing committees, comprising establishment, finance, publicity, intergovernmental, conflict and resolutions, fixing the inauguration for tomorrow.

,,,,,However, addressing newsmen at the party’s headquarters in Abuja after several hours of meeting, the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, declined to disclose the reason for the postponement of the inauguration of the committees.

Although the party’s spokesperson dismissed insinuations that the withdrawal of the BUA Group’s Chairman, Mr. Abdul Samad Rabiu, and two others, was responsible for the postponement, sources at the meeting told the Daily Sun that the withdrawal caused controversy in the leadership of the party.

Announcing his withdrawal from the committee in a statement to clarify his position, the BUA Group chairman had appreciated the ruling party for considering him for such a distinguished role, but hinged his decline on the failure of the party to consult him before announcing his name.

“However, it is important to note that our Chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu, and BUA Group, have consistently adopted an apolitical stance over the years.

“This decision is made in light of the fact…..that he was not previously consulted regarding his inclusion in the list and his inability to commit time due to his demanding schedule.

“His primary contributions to Nigeria’s advancement will continue to be through strategic investments in the economy and philanthropy, rather than through political affiliations or roles,” he declined in the statement.

However, responding to the question whether it was the withdrawal that forced the postponement, Morka declined confirmation, noting that the conversation has been overtaken by the postponement.

,,,,,“We have postponed the inauguration of the committees. I think it is pointless having a review of some of those items. There is no need for that discussion. This is an activity of the party. The party, following discussion of the NWC, has decided to postpone for any number of reasons which is quite frankly unnecessary.

“This announcement is for those who were appointed so that they know that they don’t need to travel to Abuja for an event which will not hold as previously planned. I think that is all that is important,” he said.
