Osun Senator Warns Nigerians Against Environmental Hazards

The Deputy Minority Leader of the 10th Senate, Dr. Lere Oyewumi, has called on Nigerians to desist from all forms of habit capable of causing pollution to their environment.

Oyewumi spoke in Ikire, Osun State on Saturday while addressing newsmen on climate change and environmental hazards.

The senator, who is representing Osun West Senatorial District at the red chamber, frowned to the habit of dumping refuse and waste on waterways, saying this uncivilized habit has caused many Nigerians to lose their properties while others became homeless.

He also warned Nigerians not to embark on bush burning at this period, enjoined them to seek alternative way of doing this to avoid environmental disaster.

According to the lawmaker, “We have to be proactive, we have to defend our environment, people should desist from bush burning in the defense of fire.”

Osun N100 billion Infrastructure Plan

Speaking on Governor Ademola Adeleke’s one hundred billion naira project for Osun, the lawmaker stressed that the plan can only be achieved when the government is focused and there is not extinious problem.

“If we have flood somewhere now , the government will be forced to defiate from its course to attend to the immediate thing which was not in it plans.”


He charged environmental department of local governments and states to commence serious monitoring program community by community saying their officers should start sensitizing the public and not wait until problem comes.
