NLC Sends Emotional Independence Day Message To Nigerians

On the occasion of Nigeria’s 63rd Independence anniversary, Organized Labour has called on all citizens, regardless of their ethnic, religious, or political differences, to participate in the nationwide strike scheduled to begin on October 3. They see this strike as a collective march towards achieving freedom, improved living conditions, and prosperity for all.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), speaking on behalf of Organized Labour, also made an earnest appeal to traditional leaders and other well-meaning Nigerians to counsel the government to heed the concerns of the labour force and alleviate the suffering experienced across the nation.

The NLC conveyed the message that the nation’s progress requires collective effort and that Nigeria has the potential to become a prosperous and influential economy in the world, despite its historical and present challenges.

NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, emphasized the need for Nigerians to reflect on their past, confront current challenges, and work together towards a brighter future. He called for unity and urged all Nigerians to join the indefinite nationwide strike starting on October 3.

Furthermore, Comrade Ajaero highlighted various issues plaguing the nation, including mismanagement of resources, the devaluation of the Naira, and the privatization of state-owned entities at low prices. He urged Nigerians to seek answers to these questions and demanded transparency in these matters.

The NLC’s message underscored the importance of education, healthcare, and the overall well-being of citizens, emphasizing the need for adequate funding for public universities and improved healthcare facilities.

In response to the planned nationwide strike, the Federal Government is expected to hold a meeting with labour leaders in an attempt to find common ground and avoid the impending industrial action scheduled to commence on October 3. The meeting is set to take place at the Aso Rock Villa and is scheduled to begin at 12 noon.

It’s worth noting that earlier attempts to avert the strike were unsuccessful as labour leaders requested a rescheduling of a meeting called by the Federal Government, citing prior commitments outside Abuja.
