Tribunal Delivers Final Judgment On Chicago drug-dealing forfeiture, Guinean passport
,,,,The Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal on Wednesday said President Bola Tinubu cannot be disqualified on the basis of his forfeiture of drug money in the United States.
….The court said Mr Tinubu was previously cleared by the Nigeria Police Force of any criminal issues in the U.S., which came through an enquiry the police had made to the U.S. law enforcement.
The court said Mr Tinubu has been able to enter and exit the U.S., and that means he has no criminal case.
…. Meanwhile, this online news platform understands that the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT) judges said President Tinubu Guinean passport was not properly certified as evidence before the court and was therefore expunged.
,,,,,,President Tinubu had specifically stated in his nomination filed under oath before the Independent National Electoral Commission that he had never obtained a foreign citizenship.
But his Guinean passport subsequently surfaced. Mr Tinubu admitted in court that the foreign citizenship document belonged to him, but said…it should be matter because Guinea is an Ecowas-member nation like Nigeria.
While the judges did not agree with Mr Tinubu’s argument, they nonetheless expunged the passport from evidence compilation because it was not duly certified.
,,,,,Meanwhile, the decision appeared to contradict the earlier statement of the court that it was not going to decide the election challenge on technical grounds.
