WAEC Releases 2023 Examination Results, Withheld Some Results

…,In a recent development, the West African Examination Council (WAEC) has officially unveiled the results for the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The eagerly awaited outcomes were disclosed on Monday, marking a significant moment for candidates and educators across the region.

Patrick Areghan, the Head of Nigeria’s Office (HNO) of WAEC, provided insight into the examination’s outcome. Out of a staggering total of 1,613,733 candidates who undertook the rigorous assessment, the results of 262,803 candidates have been withheld. This decision was made “due to reports of cases of examination malpractice,” Areghan stated.

The pass rate demonstrated an upward trend, with 1,361,608 candidates, making up an impressive 84.38 per cent, achieving credit grades and higher in a minimum of five subjects, regardless of whether they included English Language or Mathematics.

…Further analysis of the results reveals that a substantial majority of candidates secured remarkable achievements.

A remarkable 1,287,920 candidates, which represents an impressive 79.81 per cent of the total candidate pool, attained credits and above in a minimum of five subjects, including both English Language and Mathematics.

This accomplishment showcases the dedication and hard work put in by these students. The release of the WASSCE results undoubtedly carries immense significance, not only for the candidates but also for the educational sector as a whole.

As stakeholders review and reflect upon the outcomes, attention will inevitably turn towards addressing the issue of examination malpractice, which led to the withholding of results for a significant number of candidates.
