A lady was detained after being accused of beheading her 11-month-old child in the Yonen hamlet of Ugep, Yakurr local government region, according to the Cross River police command.

According to Irene Ugbo, a police spokesperson, the police intervened right away to prevent the wife from being lynched after the baby was slain on Tuesday.

Ms. Ugbo stated that the murder department will get the file from Ugep and conduct a thorough investigation.

She is already in protective custody, which is regrettable and devastating, but the case will undoubtedly be presented to Calabar, the spokeswoman said.

It was learned that the mother of two reportedly chopped off the baby’s head with a machete.

According to a witness, the woman’s eight-year-old son called neighbors and alerted them to the murder.

While the authorities look into the situation, Obol Ofem-Ubana Eteng, the Obol Lopon of Ugep and supreme monarch of Yakurr, has issued a calm request.

Even if what transpired has desecrated the country, Mr. Eteng remarked, “I immediately summoned a conference with my subjects because I had to make sure that additional carnage was prevented.” In the face of this horrible atrocity, “we personally appealed to young people in Ugep to follow the route of peace and sensible thought, and they enthusiastically replied.”

“We are in shock, but we are calm, and we have given the police control of this situation,” the chieftain continued. We must uphold the law, therefore I can tell you that there won’t be any retaliation.
