Gunmen attack Nigerian Customs, NCS killing one, injuring three
According to information obtained, the attackers shot and killed one officer, Saheed Aweda, who was a member of the Joint Border Patrol Team Sector 3 ASCI, and injured three others.
In the Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State, several unidentified gunmen have assaulted the personnel of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) on the Sinau-Kenu route.
According to information obtained, the attackers shot and killed one officer, Saheed Aweda, who was a member of the Joint Border Patrol Team Sector 3 ASCI, and injured three others.
In a statement released on Monday, Chado Zakari, the Public Relations Officer for the Kwara Customs Area Command, revealed that the agents had been on an informative patrol before to the attack last Friday.
The patrol team found 30 jerry cans of premium motor spirit (PMS) with a 25-liter capacity each abandoned in the bush pathways along Sinau-Kenu Road, according to the statement.
The operatives sprang into action right away and evacuated the seized items into their operational vehicles for subsequent delivery to the government warehouse for safe keeping in accordance with rules of engagement. However, while the personnel were in transit, a group of thugs set up an ambush and attacked them.
Three cops suffered life-threatening injuries and are presently receiving treatment in the hospital, according to the statement. “In the violent exchange that followed, one of our officers succumbed to the icy hands of death,” it said.
The dead was reportedly buried at his hometown of Popogbona, in the Ilorin West Local Government of Kwara State, in accordance with Islamic norms.
According to Zakari, Comptroller Olugboyega Peters, DSS, Nigerian Police, the Office of the National Security Adviser, the National Intelligence Agency, Immigration, and other security services have paid their sympathies to the deceased’s family.

Security agencies have now brought the area back to normal while the illegal objects were taken to the sector’s headquarters in Ilorin for storage, according to the statement.
Comptroller Olugboyega Peters, the coordinator of the Joint Border Patrol Team, was quoted as saying that he had directed a thorough inquiry to find the perpetrators of the act.
“This pattern of unjustified attacks by anonymous thugs who want to terrorize law enforcement officers will not go unpunished. It also won’t make officers and soldiers less determined to carry out their lawful obligations.
In spite of the unjustified assaults, it was declared, “We desire to definitely say that we will continue to conduct the anti-smuggling battle.”
