Eight-week-old baby’s hand gets broken by father for disturbing his sleep
National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Imo State Chapter of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), and Imo State Government have urged the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to apprehend Mr. Confidence Amatobi right away and bring charges against him for allegedly breaking his baby’s arm at the age of eight weeks.
Little Miracle’s arm was allegedly assaulted by Mr. Amatobi because he couldn’t sleep. The event resulted in the shattered arm’s amputation.
In Owerri, the capital of Imo State, NAWOJ, NHRC, and the baby’s injured mother demanded justice on his behalf.
She said that Mr. Amatobi was accused of repeatedly hitting the infant with a plastic instrument until his right hand fractured in an effort to stop him from wailing.
The chairwoman requested justice for the infant because he is unable to speak for himself and called the attack on the young youngster the height of child cruelty.
The NHRC coordinator for Imo State, Mrs. Ukachi Ukah, also denounced the brutality in her response to the occurrence and emphasized that justice must be allowed to proceed according to its natural course.
The mother of Miracle, Mrs. Favour Chikwe, who is from the Idemili Community in Anambra State, described her trauma in detail. She said that on Friday, October 7, 2022, when the event occurred, she had left Miracle with his father in order to use the convenience.
Favor said that she had to run back after hearing her infant sobbing excessively to find out what was wrong, only to find that his right hand was swollen and bone shattered from the beating he had gotten from his father.
It was discovered that Amatobi had admitted to hitting the infant in an effort to stop him from bothering him as he slept.
He said that after realizing he had broken the infant’s hand, he bound the fractured bones together with sticks and elastic bands.
She claimed: “When I questioned him about what he had done, he locked us up to stop me from reporting his horrible crime or asking for assistance. To prevent me from calling the neighbors, he also took my phone.
She described how she was able to transport the infant to local hospitals that turned them away before transporting him to FMC Owerri, where the amputation was carried out.
The mother made a plea for help in order to rescue her kid and urged the state government, the NHRC, and other groups of civil society to help her secure justice for her son.
