Many killed, houses set ablaze in new plateau attack

Gunmen attacked the Te’egbe community in the Bassa local government area in Plateau State and killed several people.

It has been established that several houses belonging to the natives were also set on fire by the gunmen while several others were injured in the attack which occurred in the early hours of Friday.
Miango Youth Development Association spokesperson Nuhu Bitrus confirmed the attack to reporters in Jos on Friday.

According to Bitrus, search and rescue operations for the victims were still ongoing.

He added that so far 10 people shot by the gunmen had been evacuated to the morgue.

Bitrus said: “Last night was truly another dark day for the Rigwe nation as the militia attacked the village of Te’egbe, killed so many and injured many more. They also set their homes on fire.

“At present, we have just counted the bodies of ten people who were shot dead by the attackers. They are taken to the morgue. We also found three people with gunshot wounds.

“Our people are always looking for other victims because the damage done to the community is too great. We will notify you when we have completed the search and rescue operation. ”


State Police Command spokesperson Ubah Ogaba could not be reached for comment on the incident at the time of this report’s filing.
