Man arrested for hidden 2.55kg of cocaine

The National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) announced that it had arrested a man based in Brazil, Okafor Okwudili Moses, for the 2.55 kilograms of cocaine recovered at Murtala Muhammad International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja Lagos.

Agency spokesperson Femi Babafemi in a statement on Sunday said the drugs were discovered in the toilets in the airport’s E-Arrival hall on Friday, November 12.
He said he was hidden there by a trafficker who was afraid of being caught by drug officers stationed at the airport.

Babafemi said the next day, Saturday November 13, that the alleged owner of the shipment, Moses, arrived at the airport from Brazil via an Ethiopian Airline flight and was promptly arrested.

According to the statement, during an in-custody interview, Moses confirmed that he was the owner of the illicit drug seized.

The statement also revealed that in other interdiction operations across the country, more than 6,043,857 kilograms of assorted illicit drugs have been recovered in five states of Adamawa, Ondo, Ekiti, Edo and Ebonyi with more than two hectares. of destroyed cannabis farms.

“In Ondo State, three people: Alabi Idowu; Oluwatomipe Olorundare and Finity Sunday were arrested on Monday November 15 and a total of 2,771 kg of cannabis was recovered from Oke Ogun camp, Ipele, Owo LGA, while Mrs Joy Peter, 59, was caught with more of 39 kg of cannabis and tramadol. tablets on Wednesday, November 17.

Likewise, more than 2,832 kg of drugs were seized and more than two hectares of cannabis farms destroyed in parts of Ekiti state. While 2,582 kg of cannabis were recovered on Tuesday November 16 in Itapaji Forest, Ipao, Ikole LGA, 250 kg were seized in Ise Forest, Ise-Orun LGA where the cannabis farm was also destroyed Thursday, November 18.

In Ebonyi, Ivoh Chukwuemeka, 29, accompanied by his girlfriend Ogbonna Peace, 18, was pulled over along the Enugu-Abakaliki highway with 20.357 kg of cannabis on Friday, November 19. Likewise, 377.5 kg of cannabis were seized from at least two suspects: Lucky Okhian and Aaron Monday in the Owan West LGA as well as the Okpokhumi Forest in the Owan East LGA of the State of Edo.


“Reacting to the arrest of Okafor and other suspects as well as to the seizures made by the states, the president / director general of NDLEA, the brigadier. General Mohamed Buba Marwa (retired) praised the officers and men involved in operations across the commands for keeping the pressure on the drug cartels in the country.
