President Muhammadu Buhari has responded to the report of the Lagos State Government panel set up to probe Police Brutality.

Following the violence that followed weeks after the protests at the Lekki tollgate in Lagos, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has set up a panel to look into the issue .

The panel submitted its report to the governor on Monday and has been embroiled in controversy ever since.

According to a report released by the panel, the military and police have been charged in court while the panel is said to have confirmed that several people were killed.

Human rights activists, critics of the government, and the international community are among those who have called on the Nigerian government to act on the commission’s report.

Speaking during a meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Buhari said the federal government would take up the report after Lagos completes its work.

“Many state governments are involved, and they have given different terms to the commission of inquiry,” Femi Adesina, the president’s spokesman, quoted Buhari as saying.

“We in the federation have to wait for the steps taken by the states, and let the system work. We cannot force their opinions on us. The federal government must wait for the states’ response.
