On Sunday, November 7, officers attached to the Ajiwe police station in Ajah, Lagos, arrested Toluwaleke Ariyo, a development engineer, and three of his friends, and then extorted money from them for a crime they could not expressly declare.

Ariyo and his friends were reportedly traveling to Bolt around 9 p.m. in the VGC neighborhood of Lagos when a police vehicle passed through their car and demanded to search them.
“Knowing it was late, my friends and I didn’t have an argument with them,”
“But they didn’t control us well when they asked us to follow them to their police station.”
At the police station, officers searched their phones and interrogated them several times but found nothing incriminating. Meanwhile, one of them had a Binance app on his phone.

Police said Binance was being used for money laundering and concluded that my friend was a thief. They checked the app and found $ 250 in it. Then they asked us to write a statement or negotiate our exit from their website, ”Ariyo said.

I offered to give them N2,000, but they asked me to double it if they would listen to me. According to them, the N4,000 was for the very occasion to speak to them. After Ariyo paid the agents N4,000 for trading, they then took his friend who had the Binance app on his phone to a nearby outlet where they withdrew N18,000 of the N20,000 from his. count around 3 a.m.

According to Ariyo, the agents were mean and ready to invent evidence if they hadn’t agreed to bribe them.

This online news medium made several calls to CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, spokesperson for Lagos State Police, but they did not receive a response. An SMS sent to his phone was also not answered.
