JUST IN: 13 Oyo LG Caretaker Chairmen Suspended Indefinitely

The Akinyele East LCDA, Ido LGA, Oluyole LGA, Ibadan North East LG, Lagelu West LCDA, Soro LCDA, Ogbomoso Central LCDA, Ogbomoso South West LCDA, Ajorosun LCDA, Ibarapa North West LCDA, Itesiwaju LGA, Oyo East LGA and Oyo South East LCDA were on Tuesday suspended by the Oyo State House of Assembly on Tuesday.

The assembly announced the indefinite suspension of the caretaker chairmen of eight Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) and five Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.

OSUNREPORTERS NEWS gathered that the suspension was as a result of failure of the 13 caretaker chairmen to submit a comprehensive list of graders, bulldozers, flat-bed trucks and other earth-moving equipment in their domain as requested by the state assembly.

Before now, the Assembly had given an October 23 ultimatum to the chairmen of local councils to submit the report or risk suspension after the failure of 95 percent of the chairmen to heed an earlier call from the Assembly on August 18 to submit the same report.

However, the Assembly during its plenary on Tuesday in Ibadan also said that the Secretary of the suspended caretaker chairmen should take over.

The Speaker, Hon Adebo Ogundoyin said the affected Caretaker Chairmen demonstrated their gross incompetence over their failure to bring a simple report on the state of earth moving equipment in their different domains.

Ogundoyin said the Oyo State House of Assembly was really disappointed in their action and that the Assembly and the people have lost faith in their ability and competence.

In his words, “in section 21 of the Local Government law , it says without prejudice to the provisions of this law and sequel to the petition received by the State House of Assembly and upon investigation, any culpable Chairman or Vice Chairman shall be recommended for suspension or removal by a resolution of the House. It is not a witch-hunt of any Chairman. Thirteen Caretaker Chairmen failed to honor and respect the directive of the House.”

Presenting the report of the Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters earlier, Hon Segun Ademola , Ibadan South East 2 said despite the grace of another two weeks given by the House to Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas yet to submit the report of earth moving equipment in their domains to do so , which lapsed on the twenty-third of October, thirteen chairmen still failed to submit same as directed.

Unanimously applauding the decision of the House, the leadership and members of the Oyo State House of Assembly who were at the plenary includes, Deputy Speaker, Hon Muhammad Fadeyi commended the Committee for doing a good job and described the action of the thirteen Caretaker Chairmen as an affront and an insult to the 9th Oyo State House of Assembly hence they should be suspended indefinitely, the Majority Leader, Hon Sanjo Adedoyin, the Minority Leader, Hon Asimiyu Alarape, Hon Isiaka Tunde Oyo East/Oyo West and Hon Olusola Owolabi (Ibadan North East 2)
