EXTORTION: Aggrieved customers vandalize GTBank in Osogbo
In Osogbo, the Osun State capital, crisis erupted at one of the branches of Guaranty Trust Bank on Wednesday 16th June, between the authority of the Bank and some aggrieved customers which resulted to physical fights.
The fight erupted between the security Officers stationed at the bank premises and some customers who came to transact with the bank as usual at GTBank opposite Osogbo Township Stadium, led to vandalization of glass on the wall.
An eyewitness reported that, the trouble started when customers complained of extortion from the security officers, alleging that the security men were demanding between N500 to N1000 from customers before allowing them entry into the banking hall, while the aggrieved customers confronted the security officer, who was allegedly collecting the bribe, the officer was said to have gone violent on the customers.
The source also revealed that, it is the intervention of police officers that whisked away the alleged bank officers before normalcy was restored.
Confirming the incident to newsmen in Osogbo, the Osun State Police Public Relations Officers, Yemisi Opalola said, “two suspects have been arrested and further investigation is ongoing on the matter”.
