The management of the Federal Polytechnic Ede, Osun State has expelled 27 students of Higher National Diploma (HND) over riotous protest against operatives of Economic Finance Crime Commissions(EFCC) while 8 other students were suspended for two semesters and two ex-leadership of Student Union were banned

A statement by the management of the institution through the Media Director, Sola Lawal confirmed suspending 27 HND students over the riotous protest.

The statement read: “The management of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede Osun State constituted an investigation committee to unravel the miseries surrounding the Student’s crisis/rampage of Thursday May 9th, 2024 leading to the stoning of people at the senior staff club

“The unprovoked attitude led to the vandalization of individual and institution’s properties. This unwarranted action negates the motto of the great citadel which the institution is known for after a painstaking and thorough investigation.

“27 students of HND 1 and 2 have been expelled, 8 HND II student have been suspended for two academic sessions while 2 former students union leadership were banned from entering the two campuses of the institution.”

It should be recalled that operatives of EFCC raid some hostels in Owode Ede, Osun State, a neighboring community to Ede where they arrested over 70 suspected internet fraudsters.

Some students of the institution, however, staged protest at the Zonal office of EFCC, Ibadan which snowballed into riot protest within the premises of the school leading to destruction of property as they alleged that management was not doing anything to secure the release of the affected students.

Reports revealed that the management of the institution set up a panel for trial of those involved in the protests after suspending activities of students unionism.
