2 dead,15 injured in Lagos-Ibadan highway accident
Two people were reportedly dead and 15 others injured on Saturday, November 13, 2021 when a speeding DAF overturned on the Lagos-Ibadan highway.
The truck route to Lagos was carrying bags of onions and passengers when the incident occurred.
The accident at around 6:30 am caused a stampede as the truck loaded with onions and passengers on the road.
The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Authority, Mr. Babatunde Akinbiyi, who confirmed the incident, issued the vehicle number plate as RBH 214 XA.
According to eyewitnesses, the car was about to turn when the driver lost control, possibly as a result of overuse.
“In the process, she capsized, dumping the onion she was carrying on the road, with 17 passengers on top of the truck.
Two of the passengers died instantly while 15 others were injured, ” he said.
Akinbiyi offered his condolences to the families of the victims and warned drivers to slow down as they approach degraded buildings and construction sites due to the effects of overcrowding and overcrowding.
